Cultural activities

Guided visits
From traditional architecture to the more modern architecture of les Arcs, from Baroque art to the spinning industry, different tourist visits have been put together to satisfy your curiosity and to bring the spirit of Bourg-Saint Maurice / Les Arcs to life, taking it beyond our borders.

Baroque Colours : Discover the village of Hauteville-Gondon with its Baroque Church, a subtle blend of polychrome paintings and gold leaf gilding reflecting the Alpine Baroque.
Adult : 5 £ - Children (age 8 to 12) : 3 £

Local stone and wood : The traditional architecture of Valezan has kept all of its originality. It has been specially adapted to the landscape and harsh climate using the know-how of the locals. Enjoy a walk to discover its Baroque Church and its little streets.
Adult : 5 £ - Children (age 8 to 12) : 3 £

Wool, gold and light : In the town of Seez, craftsmanship goes hand in hand with tradition. At the Arpin Mill they have been carrying out the skills of the master woolworkers since 1817. From the sheering of sheep raised in the Alpine pastures to the production of yarn, right through to the weaving process - this is what gives such excellence to the renowned Bonneval cloth. Also discover the spectacular baroque church of Saint Pierre.
Adult : 7 £ - Children (age 8 to 12) : 5 £

Heritage over the centuries : Set on a plateau just 3 km from Bourg-Saint-Maurice, the small village of Vulmix nestles around its chapel where its 15th century frescoes recount the life of its Patron saint in the form of a comic strip. The visit finishes by tasting different cakes and pastries in a typical Savoyard auberge.
Adult : 9 £ - Children (age 4 to 12) : 5 £

Tell me the story of les Arcs : Les Arcs, a unique architectural success story of a modern, functional resort that is integrated into the mountain landscape. A joint achievement by some of the greatest names in architecture, such as Charlotte Perriand, Guy Rey-Millet, Bernard Taillefer, Alain Taves, Pierre Faucheux... The latter designed the, whose laminated-wood roof structure has become the emblem of les Arcs.
Adult : 5 £ - Children (age 8 to 12) : 3 £

Visits and museums

Mineral Museum
The Mineral Museum, at Bourg-Saint-Maurice, presents from across this unique region, the ancestral activities of the crystal makers, kilns and the crystals...

Maison de la Pomme in the Chal-Hauteville-Gondon Village
Open every day, free entry.
From the Aime region to that of Bourg-Saint-Maurice, the apple is part of the local history, and compliments the farming economy. Fruit of the earth, it can be used for making cider, to enhance both sweet and savoury dishes as well as being used with pork based dishes . Reinettes and Franc-Roseau apples are even exported. In growing these fruits, a diverse production is assured for eleven months of the year. Since the 1960's, however, traditional methods of production have become more specialised with the old orchards slowly being abandoned and becoming seriously threatened today. This Tarentaise heritage along with a genetic pool can be used to create new varieties and the orchards are also an interesting ecosystem where fruit trees and other plant and animal life develop.
‘La petite maison de la Pomme', at Chal near Bourg-Saint-Maurice, enables you to understand this priceless heritage and a project is being set up in the Tarentaise area to save the orchards.

Villaroger nature reserve

The Hauts de Villaroger Natural Reserve
With an area of 1062 hectares, the Villaroger Natural Reserve stretches from an altitude of 1200 to 3650 metres and shelters protected species. For this reason skiers and walkers cannot have access to the site.

Date of creation : 1991.
Flagship species : The ‘Tetras-lyre' also known as the little cockerel from Bruyere.
Other species : chamois, stag, roe deer, hare, ptarmigan...
Regulations : Off-piste skiing is forbidden in the Natural Reserve (*) as it would disturb the animals, in particular the Tetras-lyre. In winter, this bird builds its nest under powdery snow. A passing skier would cause it to flee using energy too difficult to recuperate when food is in short supply.
Consult the itinerary plan on skiing regulations (*) Off-piste skiing is only allowed in The Hauts Natural Reserve in the presence of a Professional guide or with a qualification - Seance d'Habilitation - (dated 28/01/1991 - by-law 16/12/1994).
